Just for you! Is Dominicks getting back in the game?

I don't know about you, but in my house both my wife and I do the grocery shopping. Of course lately it has been all her, but I do try to get involved in the activity as often as possible. Why? Because the more I go to the store with her, the more I get exactly what I want to eat. Sure she can get things for me that I may put on the shopping list, but there is always that occasional item that is an impulse buy for me. And if I'm not there that simply cannot happen.

Bear in mind, the stores mentioned in this article are really only of concern to the readers who reside in the Midwest. So I apologize, but this story is targeted to those of you who are in my neck of the woods. Anyhow as far as grocery stores go, Dominicks was always in direct competition with Jewel. And for what it is worth, Jewel was always the better value. Sure Dominicks always had good products to offer and always had a good selection of produce and higher end products occasionally as well. However, as far as financial value goes, Jewel always won out. If your trying to watch your wallet - you would always spend more shopping at Dominicks. But I think someone at Dominicks finally recognized this and in addition to jumping head first into the online game, they are offering a program that may be just enough to gain them some market share over Jewel and save people some money when doing their grocery shopping.

So what are they doing to help the average shopper save money? Dominicks has started an online coupon service that is pretty extensive. You can customize your coupon "clipping" to only show or give you coupons for things you actually want or need. And "clipping" will be a thing of the past. You will no longer need to clip anything. See here's how it works.

As you go through the pages of coupons on the site you will see that most of the deals are actually not too bad. So when you find one you want, lets say for a case of Coke. Click the "add" button and it is added to your list. Here is the cool part. As you go through and add item after item, the items don't get added to a list that prints up a bunch of coupons. No, that would be just the same as any other coupon site. What Dominicks does with this setup is they add the coupons to your Dominicks Club Card! So when you go shopping you do not need to lug around a stack of coupons or anything of the like. All you need to do is go shopping as you would any other day and when you pay at the register, you give your Club Card to the cashier, they scan it and all your coupons that you added from your PC at home get added to your purchase. Or should I say, deducted.

This is where the magic is. They have saved you the chaos that is coupon clipping. Just go through the list, add the coupons that work for the items you want, they get loaded onto your card and your ready to go. Now this is convenient. And for all the promotions and programs out there that claim convenience, this is one that is actually doing it. Another benefit is that all these deals will remain on your card until the expiration date of the coupon. So once entered onto your card, you do not need to continue added it should you choose to purchase more than one of the same item.

So Jewel may be giving away pots and pans with their most recent promotion, but I would rather save money then stamps to trade in at a later date for some pots and pans. And for all the times I did not shop at Dominicks because of their higher prices, this program will actually win them back a customer. Because I will definitely be using this new coupon program, or should I say my wife will. All we need next is for them to integrate an online shopping list that will port over to my Blackberry and my grocery shopping will finally be less of a hassle. Happy shopping everyone.
